The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has unique opportunity for an enterprising professional as the State Facilities Manager.  This position is recognized as the department expert in building design and construction, facilities asset management, sustainable building practices and represents WSDOT at state and national forums.

 
The primary objective of the State Facilities Manager is to provide strategic leadership, management and oversight of the department’s Capital Facilities Program, Safety Rest Area Program, HQ Facilities Operations and statewide Lease Management to ensure functional building spaces and sites to support WSDOT’s daily operations.  This position is primarily responsible for over $1 billion of department ‘facilities assets’ that house the departments 6,800 staff and equipment, as well as 47 Safety Rest Areas that serve 20 million annual visitors.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Development of Statewide strategic vision, policy direction, budget management and project delivery for multiple Operating and Capital Programs.
  • Develop long term capitol facilities strategic plans utilizing both debt and cash funding mechanisms.
  • Asset management and reporting.
  • Evaluate and determine programmatic and fiscal impacts of proposed legislation.
  • Manage the statewide Operating and Capital Program funds.
  • Evaluate and determine contact method and building projects.
  • Execute and deliver public works building contracts.
  • Assess, evaluate and determine facility program space needs.
  • Responsible for statewide reporting of all program activities and projects.
  • Collect, evaluate and report upon WSDOT’s statewide use of electricity and building fuels.
  • Provide coordination with other state agencies in regards to department facilities.
  • Provide statewide leadership and direction related to state and federal codes and compliance, sustainability and energy-efficiency and modern work environments.
  • Participate in state and national dialogs on issues and emerging trends in facilities.

 

An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Four-year college degree in architecture, engineering or business.
  • Professional Architect or Engineers License registered in the State of Washington.
  • Knowledge of budget development, building design and construction, state laws and codes as they pertain to building design/construction, performance measurement standards for facilities management, and the Washington State Legislative process.
  • Highly developed strategic planning and management skills.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally to a diverse group of customers, managers, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent the department in regional, statewide and national forums.
  • Identify real potential financial, administrative and operational problems.
  • Valid driver’s license
